Itinerary
- Hotel pick up in Delhi: Begin your day with a comfortable pick up from your hotel in Delhi and set out to explore the city’s remarkable Islamic and Mughal heritage.
- Red Fort: The massive red sandstone walls of the Red Fort rise about 33 meters above the bustling streets of Old Delhi, creating one of the city’s most impressive landmarks. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648, the fort once served as the royal residence of the Mughal rulers. The Lahore Gate, its main entrance, becomes the center of national celebrations during India’s Independence Day.
- Jama Masjid: One of the largest mosques in India, Jama Masjid stands proudly in the heart of Old Delhi. Its vast courtyard can accommodate around 25,000 worshippers. The mosque features three grand gateways, four towers, and two impressive 40 meter high minarets built with red sandstone and white marble.
- Humayun's Tomb: This magnificent garden tomb is one of the finest examples of early Mughal architecture in India. Built in 1565 by Bega Begum in memory of her husband Humayun, the monument is surrounded by beautiful symmetrical gardens and inspired later Mughal structures, including the Taj Mahal.
- Safdarjung's Tomb: Constructed in 1754, Safdarjung’s Tomb is the last grand garden tomb built in Delhi following the style of Humayun’s Tomb. It was built as the mausoleum of Safdar Jang, an influential noble in the Mughal court.
- Nizamuddin Dargah: This revered Sufi shrine honors Nizamuddin Auliya, one of the most respected spiritual figures of the Indian subcontinent. The shrine represents his teachings of love, unity, and devotion that transcend religion, caste, and region. Nearby lies the resting place of the famous poet and musician Amir Khusro.
- Lodhi Gardens: Set within a beautiful garden landscape, Lodhi Gardens contains several historic monuments including the tombs of Muhammad Shah and Sikandar Lodi. The park also features architectural structures such as Shish Gumbad and Bara Gumbad, known for their impressive domes and Indo Islamic design.
- Qutub Minar: Standing 73 meters tall, the Qutub Minar is one of the tallest brick minarets in the world. It was begun by Qutb-ud-din Aibak and later completed by his successors. The tower has five distinct levels marked by projecting balconies and intricate carvings. Nearby stands the famous Iron Pillar, known for its remarkable resistance to rust.
- Return to your hotel in Delhi: After a full day exploring Delhi’s historic monuments and spiritual landmarks, return to your hotel
